Helen Muhr

I’m Helen, originally from Germany, where I studied Medicine and Psychology in parallel - a combination that let me explore both the mind and the molecular side of things. After finishing my second state exam, I felt it was the perfect moment to step out of the clinical routine and dive deeper into research. That’s why I’m spending a dedicated research year in the Steckelberg lab.
I’ve always loved the more theoretical parts of my studies. In the preclinical years, biochemistry was the subject that sparked my curiosity, and later on in the clinical phase, it was virology. That mix of interests - and the excitement of asking questions at the interface of biology and medicine - made this lab the right place for me. My year here is generously supported by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, something I’m really grateful for.
Outside the lab, I try to keep life balanced. I love running, Pilates, and strength training, and I’m always up for long walks through the city. Exploring new cafés and food spots is one of my favorite ways to get to know a place - so I’m already excited to see what New York has to offer.
